repurpose old bookcase headboard

I repurposed a bookcase headboard made by my father by using chalk paint and lathes from our old house.

Oh, how I love a repurposed redo! I’ve seen many headboards go from ugly headboards to pretty headboards, but not many go from ugly headboards to pretty entry tables. And all it took was two things: black paint and creativity! And also, a headboard. So three things. Plus paintbrushes and stuff. But you get the gist. We have a narrow hallway we wanted to be able to throw our keys and other items to keep tidy. Then we found this curbside treasure and the wheels started turning. This is the before picture after nabbed from the curb. We used a charcoal chalky finish paint. Applied a wallpaper remnant from another project to the back wall of the headboard. We couldn't decide to whether to paint the sliding doors or not, but in the end we decided to keep the colors consistent and went with paint.…

A repurposed headboard I found in the "garbage"..the bottom half is used for kid's books and toys.

When our son went to Heaven at the age of 19, I knew I wanted to keep the headboard of his bed as a keepsake. The headboard was a bookcase style that I could see as a precious 'memory' piece. Hubby and I have done lots and lots of basic home remodeling, but this was totally my project...and a finish carpenter I am not! I'm the "Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without" kind of gal. So, with lots of prayer and kicking it around in my mind I finally finished my 'keepsake project…
