"[4/8/15 - no.2] Ratios.  The ratio for Copperplate is based on the x-height, the space between the header and the baseline.  The ratio I usually like to practice is the one shown in the picture, 2:1:2.  This ratio means: 2 ascender spaces, 1 x-height space, and 2 descender spaces.  There are other common ratios such as 3:2:3, which is normal and easy to read, and 1:1:1, which seems the most natural if you're used to writing in cursive, but the letters with stem loops tend to look awkward…
