Anne Vavasour, attributed to John de Critz the elder, c. 1605. Daughter of Henry Vavasour of Tadcaster and Margaret Kynvet, she was one of Elizabeth's Ladies of the Bedchamber. Mistress to Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford (married to Anne Cecil) and later to Sir Henry Lee of Ditchley. By both of these she had sons. She also married bigamously. Sir Henry seems to have been genuinely attached to her; his effigy shows him recumbent in armor with an efficy of Anne at his feet.
