Non-messy "Jitter Glitter" for first-day nerves. I didn't want sticky juice or messy glitter, so instead I use a decorated antibacterial hand gel that has the glittery-like beads, which magically disappear as kids rub their hands together. Read the book First Day Jitters, then give each kid a tiny squirt of this on their hands. (It also helps to keep germs at bay on the first day!)

It doesn't matter how many years I have been teaching, the back to school section, the feel of fall in the air, and the smell of new books always brings on the same anxious feeling I had as a child as school was about to begin.
