Battersea Park was chosen as the venue for the lighter, more frivolous side of the Festival of Britain. It was the brainchild of Festival mastermind Gerald Barry. Battersea Fun Fair opened in May 1951 and outlasted most of the prestigious exhibits on the South Bank. It was themed around both an imaginary Olde England and a futuristic world.
