De Havilland Mosquito, the wonder of wood. The "Mossie" was the result of Geoffery DeHavilland's conviction that a very fast, powerful aircraft could be built of wood. The result was not only fast, and "stealthy" on German radar, but could carry 4000 lbs of bombs to Berlin at 400 knots, as well as fulfilling many other roles. Military Airplane, Airplane Fighter

With two Merlin engines this precision fighter bomber was the next step from the Spitfire. The amazing De Havilland Mosquito.... built mainly from plywood / balsa wood sandwich, for simplicity, speed and lightness. Probably the fastest and most versatile aircraft of WW2. #DeHavillandMosquito Aircraft Photos, Reconnaissance Aircraft
