Swinging conduit arm Dave keeps extension cord clutter to a minimum with this 10'-long swinging conduit arm. Made of 3/4" black pipe painted yellow to match the cord color, the arm primarily serves his assembly table but swings 150°. Two pieces of maple screwed to the wall hold the arm in place, and a grommetlike fitting at the end of the arm squeezes the cord to keep it from shifting inside the conduit.

Principles of design: Balance: This could at first appear to be symmetrical, but when you look at all the elements, such as the drawers on the left & the ottomans on the right, it makes it broken up more so it's not in such tight symmetry. Harmony: The shelf above the t.v. is repetitive by having the books, but then the room gets more variety by adding in the plant by the t.v. and the yellow ottomans.
