A new catch-and-release Minnesota musky record is in the books! Andrew Slette caught this GIANT 57-incher on Pelican Lake in Otter Tail County. What an amazing catch. Word is he caught a 54-incher on the same lake last year. #anglingbuzz #masterangler #musky #muskie #muskyfishing #esox #giantfish #leviathon #muskyhunter #topofthefoodchain #catchandrelease #letthemgosotheycangrow #bigfish #fishing #catchoftheday #pike #northernpike #walleye #exploreminnesota

Tom Neustrom on Pulling Spinners for Summer Walleyes: A lot of people dont understand how many walleyes live shallow all throughout the season especially in lakes with a little bit of color or turbidity. One of my favorite presentations for summer walleyes is running spinner rigs over isolated patches of cabbage up shallow. It is a presentation thats overlooked by many anglers who spend the summer months out fishing deep structure. What Im looking for is isolated patches of weeds in 5-10…

How was your 4th of July weekend? Garett Svir was busy busting trophy caliber bluegills like this 11 incher. He caught them vertical jigging tungsten jigs tipped with leeches - specifically the Mooska Jig from @northlandtackle. #anglingbuzz #bullgill #bluegill #panfish #gills #sunfish #masterangler #catchandrelease #letthemgosotheycangrow #bigfish #fishing #catchoftheday #4thofjuly #weekendwarrior #crappie #walleye #perch #pike

Keith Kavajecz on Pulling Cranks for Summer Walleyes: Right now my go-to summer walleye technique would be crankbaits. I just think in the summer the fish get spread out enough that you need to cover water and theres no better way to do that than trolling crankbaits. As a general rule of thumb if youre fishing structure you want to run the baits closer to the bottom and if youre out in open water you want to run them higher in the water column above the suspending walleyes. Once youve…

Speedtrolling originated back in the 1940s with Buck Perry and his theories of structure fishing. Perry theorized that fish lived in mysterious deep-water sanctuaries much of the time but moved shallower onto structure like points humps and breaklines to feed. We now know that fish behavior is much more complex than that but it provided a good starting point for deciphering fish behavior. Integral to his fish-finding and catching process were tools he named Spoonplugs: shoehorn-shaped metal…

Shallow Walleyes--Perhaps Shallower Than You Think? - by Dave Csanda - We've been hearing a similar tune in recent weeks and it's still playing out on numerous waters throughout the region. - Despite the early spring things are developing slowly this year--weeds seasonal patterns etc. Across the board loads of walleyes are still being caught shallow. From Leech to Mille Lacs Big Stone to the Hayward Lakes Winnebago and more the action is still shallow. - How shallow? Twelve feet or less. In…

Chad Schilling on Pulling Propeller Rigs for Summer Walleyes: My go-to summer walleye technique would have to be trolling a Pro Tackle Propeller Rig with a bottom bouncer. The propeller itself is really just a tiny spinner but it does an excellent job triggering bites. As far as the bottom bouncer goes Im usually using a 2-ouncer but Ill change it up as necessary to whatever keeps my line at a 45 degree angle while trolling. I generally tip the rig with a half a crawler. When the bite gets…

Gary Parsons on Shivering for Summer Walleyes: While I love to catch walleyes on crankbaits and slow death during the summer the bite I look forward to the most is casting Shiver Minnows; its my most consistent technique from lake-to-lake for summer walleyes. Once water temperatures get up over 70 degrees this bite gets really tough to beat. I look for deepwater rock sunken humps and rises off the bottom in anywhere from 12 to 30 feet of water working the tops and sides of the these various…

Mark Courts on Pulling Slow-Death for Summer Walleyes: I travel all across the country fishing tournaments and one thing that works everywhere I go is pulling a slow death rig. Its really a phenomenal tactic for covering water and catching summer walleyes even when the bite gets tough. Here's my setup: I'll run 10/4 or 8/3 Fireline down to a 1 to 2 oz bottom bouncer. I tie all my slow death rigs with 8lb XT Trilene anywhere from 3 to 4 feet away from the bottom bouncer. I typically like to…
