St. Ignatius of Antioch (50 – 117 C.E.) • One of the earliest Church Fathers. Ignatius was a Christian martyr, arrested by provincial authorities under the Emperor Trajan and torn apart by wild beasts in the Colosseum for the amusement of the Roman mob.
